One of My Favourite Bands

Check out switchfoot's latest single "Dirty Second Hands" at http://www.myspace.com/switchfoot

 Untitled

Switchfoot is often referred to as a "Christian band", mostly due to their involvement with the Christian rock scene in their early days. But the band has always shunned this label. "For us, it's a faith, not a genre", says Jon Foreman. "We've always been very open and honest about where the songs are coming from. For us, these songs are for everyone. Calling us 'Christian rock' tends to be a box that closes some people out and excludes them. And that's not what we're trying to do. Music has always opened my mind — and that's what we want." [16] Duly, Jon's lyrics steer clear of preachiness, exclusive declarations of faith, or even any mention of Jesus Christ, instead questioning the status quo, pondering existential questions through "Socratic dialogue" [17]in which he answers questions with more questions, or simply being inspirational. This approach has resulted in them often being described as a "thinking person's" band [18] [19]. Jon's poetry is acclaimed by fans and critics alike for its heartfelt honesty, which is evident in his appraisal of the human condition, and in his willingness to not just embrace faith, but to progressively question it as well.

Movie Review

Save The Last Dance For Me 2

http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/303231/moviemain.jhtml

Untitled

A Musical cum Dance movie with a decent storyline...
This movie is concerning a young blonde ballerina, Sara Johnson who works incredibly hard to achieve her goal in Julliard (an art school).

Of course, she meets a young black guy, Miles (who happens to be a young temporary lecturer on "hip-hop" and the movie's plot slowly unfolds (meaning she falls for him).

Btw, Miles definition of hip-hop during class is "I am here"

 Untitled

Clasical dancing is tough at Julliard and Sara Johnson has to sacrifice much including her relationship with Miles. In the end she makes it big in theatre and does some thinking about her life.

Okay, the story is typical of 'post-modern day' boy-girl dramas. But let's take a look at what could be so interesting about this movie that Judson would take time to write a blog entry on it.

At the end of the movie, Sara Johnson speaks the following words to Miles in a very emotional atmosphere (just after her big hit at the clasical theatre)

"I dance my best tonight, it was close to perfect. When I was done I close my eyes and there was so much peace. But when I opened them... everyone was standing and clapping. And I felt nothing. Just numb. And I thought to myself 'that's an odd thing to feel. I've worked my whole life to get to this place, and I feel nothing'.... (she then pours out her love to him...)
and I remembered you, and what you said that day in class. 'I am here'...."

1. I find this interesting because it is very much true in life that we work so hard to reach the top to realise that there is NOTHING there. Solomon said it in Ecclesiastes. Looks like MTV also knows it well. Everything is vain if it is not for the bigger picture. Some work to reach the pinnacle in their career only to find out it is meaningless...

Well, an update on Judson. I am searching for meaning in life. Of course I know where to find it - God. Ravi Zacharia (a famous apologist) said "worship". But to be REALLY honest, I am yet to experience it or walk the talk...

2. Also, I have a question that has been tingling in my mind. "I am here". I think many times I face situations where I want to be noticed and appreciated for who I am not what I can do, or the skills and talents I have. Why is this so? Am I created that way? AND... do I really appreciate and recgonise ppl for who they are? Or am I just using them...

Thinking aloud,
Jud

Of Raya & Wonderful Food

A friend of mine, the only malay I know in Lower 6, SXI invited me to his open house for raya. The interesting part was both his parents were in the police force - scary. And, he stayed in the police barracks - even scarier! Haha.

But I never regretted going, it was fun meeting with friends at raya, and what really got my attention was the wonderful lemang (rice wrap in bamboo) and the beef rendang. THE BEST BEEF RENDANG that has ever landed on my taste buds. I'm quite particular on food, and have tried a lot of malay cuisine. But my friend's mother's rendang was the BEST, truly the best.
